Wash Day 05-30-2015 (Curl Junkie & Uncle Funky's Daughter Wash N Go)

Hey, beautiful people!  Today, I was in the mood to use up some things and try out an oldie but goodie.

First, I did an overnight deep condition last night with the Koils By Nature deep conditioner.  I am in love with this stuff, and it may end up on my staples list.

This morning, I washed my hair with the Uncle Funky's Daughter cleanser and detangled with Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship.  As my leave-in, I went back to an old favorite that I have been using since my BC - - Curl Junkie Curl Assurance Smoothing Lotion.  Then, I added my oil mix, and used Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic for my wash n go.  Next, I tied a t-shirt around my hair for an hour to suck up some of the water.

It has been 8 hours, and my hair is completely dry in the front, and 90% dry in the back.  I am loving the way my hair looks, and it is surprisingly soft. This may be my favorite wash n go so far.

Wash and style time - 1 hour, including a pause to change and diaper a baby

Wash Day 05-23-2015 (Eco Styler Wash N Go)

Hey, beautiful people!  Today was another simple wash day.  I started off by deep conditioning overnight with the Koils by Nature Deep Conditioner.  I am really loving this deep conditioner.  It has amazing slip that allows me to detangle dry hair with no water.

This morning, I rinsed out the deep conditioner.  Then, I detangled my hair wit Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Conditioner.  I didn't completely rinse out the conditioner today because I've noticed that it really helps my hair to clump. Next, while still in the shower with sopping wet hair,I applied pink Eco Styler gel, first running it through, then using the praying hands method.

Since I did this all on sopping wet hair, it took forever for my hair to dry.  I had it in a Turbie twistie for 30 minutes because it was dripping wet.  Then, I used a regular bath towel because the turbie twistie could not hold all of the water.  It was still sopping wet 4 hours later.

When it finally dried, it was Epic fail. I got dull, mushroom hair that flaked ALOT and it took over 12 hours to dry. I won't do Eco Styler for a wash n go again, unless it is an updo.

I forgot to take a pic once it dried. I have a pic of it wet.

Total time from wash to style - 30 minutes (end time 8:13 a.m.)

EDITED 4/3/2017 to add -- In looking back on this post, I am not entirely convinced that the pink Eco Styler gel is the culprit for my results.  It might be the process I used (which was not my typical process), or the fact that I left in Herbal Essences Conditioner (something I normally don't do).  I plan to try Pink Eco Styler gel for a wash n' go again in 2017 to see how it goes, and I will link the results here.

Wash Day 05-13-15 & 05-17-15 (The Co-wash Initiative)

Hey, beautiful people!  I had been neglecting my hair because of work, so I am currently on a mission to get more moisture into it.  As part of my mission, I'm trying to co-wash 2-3 times per week.

On Wednesday and Sunday this week, I did the exact same thing.  First I co-washed and finger detangled with Herbal Essence.  On Wednesday, I used the Totally Twisted Conditioner.  On Sunday, I used the Long Term Relationship Conditioner because I ran out of Totally Twisted.  These are my holy grail conditioners.  My curls clumped together so well with the Long Term Relationship that I may incorporate it into my next wash & go.

After I rinsed out the conditioner, I ran Koils by Nature Leave-in Conditioner through my hair, and put my hair up in a low bun.  On Sunday, I put a little bit of the Koils by Nature peppermint gel on the top of my hair to keep down flyaways.

Total wash time (including styling):  36 minutes

Promise:  Excellent for chemically damaged, weak and brittle hair. Helps fill in cracks in the hair shaft to help give strength and prevent further breakage. Also great for general maintenance of the hair. Makes a great once a month treatment to help keep your hair in top shape!

Scent: Coconut

Consistency:  Creamy, medium thickness.  Not too light, and not too heavy

Results:   This is another favorite.  It has good slip, and leaves my hair feeling soft, yet moisturized, even though protein is high on the ingredient list.  I have used it both overnight and as a traditional deep conditioner under a heat cap.  My only hesitation on this one is the price.  Through my deep conditioner search, I’ve found other deep conditioners that work well and are cheaper.

Scent:  Like medicated menthol.  It is not the greatest smell, and the smell is strong.

Consistency:  Creamy, medium thickness.  Not too light, and not too heavy

Results:   In full disclosure, I have been using this deep conditioner for a couple years now, and I love it.  Even though I am near the end of my deep conditioner challenge, this is still my favorite.  It is amazing as both an overnight deep conditioner and in the traditional deep conditioning.  This is one of the few conditioners that actually says you can use it as a pre-poo.  It is light enough that it easily spreads through the hair, but it packs a powerful punch as both a moisturizing and strengthening deep conditioner.   For people who cannot use Aubrey Organics GPS (like me), try this one.

Wash Day 05-09-2015 (Koils by Nature Wash & Go)

Hey, beautiful people!  It is important to keep a hair journal so that you can figure out what works for your hair and what doesn't.  My hair journal that I've had for years is finally on it's last pages, so I'm taking it electronic.

This weekend, I had limited time for my wash day because I was home alone with the baby.  I have had Koils by Nature products in my stash for awhile, so today seemed like the best time to try.

In typical wash day fashion, I applied my deep conditioner the night before, separating my hair into 4 sections.  I used the Koils by Nature Ultra Moisturizing Deep Conditioner (review coming soon).  I left it in while I took my shower, then I rinsed it out while finger detangling.

I didn't towel or T-shirt dry my hair today.  Instead, I applied the Koils by Nature Cocoa-Aloe Leave-in Conditioner (review coming soon) to my hair, while doing additional finger detangling.  Then, I applied the Koils by Nature Herbal Curl Defining Gel in Peppermint for a wash n' go.  I'm not expecting much out of this wash n' go because the gel doesn't seem like it has enough hold, though it has great slip.

I started the wash process at 11:15 a.m., and I was done applying the gel by 11:38 (total wash time 23 minutes).  Over an hour later, my hair was still dripping.  Twelve hours later, it was mainly dry. I had a little flaking, but not a ton.  The bigger issue was that it frizzed horribly, and shrunk alot.

The top is wet hair. The bottom is dry.

Product Review: Annabelle’s Perfect Blend Blueberry Cheesecake Deep Conditioner (The Deep Conditioner Files #11)

Promise:  Blueberry Cheesecake Deep Conditioner is a moisture rich conditioner made with organic blueberry seed oil and other oils known for their hair benefits. It will eliminate dryness and leave hair noticeably softer and more manageable. Your hair will have amazing slip for easy detangling!

Scent:  Undeniably Blueberry

Consistency:  Like a light lotion

Results:   I really wanted to like this deep conditioner because it smells heavenly, but my hair would not let me.  I tried this three times as an overnight, and it left my hair dry each time.  As I was writing this review, however, I noticed that the ingredients and the packaging are now different online.  In the new formulation, the conditioning agent is now closer to the top; there is no cocoa seed butter; and there are less oils, so maybe I will try it again.  I do love the moisturizing hair creme from this line.
